“Good cinema should make you forget you are sitting in a theater.” —Roman Polanski
If you need more convincing that foreign sales represent a big market, ponder these opening weekend grosses (May 29-31, 2015):
“San Andreas” grossed $54 million in the US and $118 million overseas.
“Tomorrowland” grossed $63 million in the US and $133 million overseas.
“Avengers: Age of Ultron” grossed $427 million in the US and $1.3 billion overseas.
Obviously, these comparisons will not apply as dramatically to all independent feature films and documentaries. But it should be crystal clear to all filmmakers that a foreign marketing campaign should be a very high priority.
The task can be daunting. Foreign countries have different requirements; language can be a problem; personal contact with overseas sales agents is often necessary; subtitles will be required; and an understanding of foreign cultures and needs is vital.
Our CINEMAflix DISTRIBUTION PROGRAM will help you overcome these huge obstacles.
* We’ll market your film to TV stations, TV networks, and theater chains in such areas as North America, Central and South America, Europe, South Africa, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.
* We’ll encode and submit your film to the digital platforms that have a global reach. Currently, iTunes is available in over 60 countries; Amazon Instant Video is available in England, Japan, Germany, and Austria; and Netflix is available in England, France, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, and Luxembourg. And, you can be sure, more countries will be added by the end of the year.
